What is an electrical condition assessment?
A condition assessment is a systematic inspection of your distribution equipment to find problems while they are still developing: loose or corroded connections, overloaded circuits, moisture intrusion, and localized overheating.
We scan energized equipment with infrared and pair it with a visual and mechanical inspection. Findings are ranked by severity, so the maintenance budget goes to the hot connection that could take out a feeder before it goes to the cosmetic items.

Condition Assessment FAQ
NFPA 70B ties the interval to equipment condition, criticality, and operating environment rather than one universal number. Annual infrared on critical distribution gear is common practice, with more frequent scans on equipment in poor condition or in a harsh environment.
Yes. Thermal anomalies come from current flowing through a bad connection, so a de-energized panel shows nothing. The equipment also needs to be carrying a meaningful share of its normal load — a lightly loaded feeder can hide a connection that would run hot in August.
Enough that a developing fault produces measurable heat. Common industry guidance is a minimum of roughly 40% of rated load, and we schedule scans during normal production for that reason. Where load is unavoidably light, we note it in the report rather than implying a clean result.
Infrared through a closed door tells you very little, so covers are removed or infrared windows are used. Removing covers on energized equipment is energized work under NFPA 70E: our engineers work in appropriate arc-rated PPE, within the boundaries the arc flash assessment establishes.
Loose and corroded connections most often, then overloaded and unbalanced circuits, then moisture and contamination in outdoor and washdown areas. Loose connections and overloads are leading contributors to electrical fires and unplanned outages, and nearly all of it is correctable while the equipment is still in service.
No. An arc flash study is a calculation of hazard level and what PPE the hazard requires. A condition assessment is a physical inspection of what shape the equipment is in. One tells you how to work on the gear safely, the other tells you what is about to fail.
The assessment is inspection and engineering: we identify, rank, and recommend. Corrective work is performed by your maintenance staff or an electrical contractor, and we will scope the repair, review the plan, and rescan the corrected connections on the next visit.
Heat where there should not be any: loose or corroded connections, overloaded conductors, failing breakers, and unbalanced loads all show as thermal anomalies under load. Severity is ranked by temperature rise, so your maintenance budget goes to the highest-risk items first.
Pricing follows asset count and site logistics: how many panels, switchboards, and MCCs get scanned, and how spread out they are. It is a fixed fee set at scoping, and recurring annual assessments cost less than the first baseline visit.
